October is Fall Car Care Month, so what’s Volkswagen doing to help? Only creating a new augmented reality service manual display system for the VW XL1.
Known as MARTA (Mobile Augmented Reality Technical Assistance), this system will be able to identify your XL1’s service needs and offer step-by-step instructions, among many other capabilities. You can find out more about how it works it by watching the video.
Volkswagen partnered with augmented reality solutions firm Metaio GmbH to develop MARTA. The idea behind this innovative display system is that, when you bring your VW XL1 in for service, a Volkswagen service technician will be able to view a list of every job that needs to be done on your car. In addition, MARTA will provide repair instructions, assembly configurations, test specifications and a list of the tools that should be used.
The Volkswagen XL1, the world’s most aerodynamic and fuel-efficient production car, made its U.S. debut recently at the annual Society of Environmental Journalists Conference. The XL1 is estimated to deliver more than 200 mpg.
